Annual Meeting of the Parish Council

The Annual Parish Council Meeting is a formal meeting of a parish council in England that takes place annually to conduct business, make appointments, and elect a new chair:

  • When it’s held

The meeting is held in May, and in an election year it’s held on or within 14 days of the day when new councillors take office.

  • What happens

The meeting includes electing a new chair and vice-chair, making committee appointments, and reviewing insurance and risk management policies.

Although held on the same evening, the Annual Parish Meeting is a separate event from the Annual Parish Meeting, which is a more informal community meeting where residents can ask questions and make suggestions.
